Tween 20 Stabilized Conventional Heavy Crude Oil-In-Water Emulsions Formed by Mechanical Homogenization

چکیده

This study investigated the preparation of stable conventional heavy crude oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions by mechanical homogenization with addition a non-ionic surfactant, Tween-20. A four-factor, five-level central composite design was carried out to investigate effects four independent variables, including mixing intensity (4,000–10,000 rpm), duration (5–45 min), water salinity (0–40 g/L), and concentration emulsifier (0.1–2.1 wt%) on emulsion stability. Emulsion stability determined quantification creaming index, turbidity change rate, average oil droplet size. The results demonstrated that 30 g/L, 8,500 rpm, 35 min, 1.6 wt% led formation most emulsion.

Structure and oxidative stability of oil in water emulsions as affected by rutin and homogenization procedure.

The structural properties of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, as well as their oxidative stability upon storage at 50 °C, were studied. Eight different formulations were prepared, with the aim of studying the effect of three variables: the composition of the oil phase, the presence of the flavonoid rutin and the homogenization procedure on the structure and the oxidative stability. It was found th...

Demulsification of crude oil-in-water emulsions by means of fungal spores

The present feature describes for the first time the application of spores from Aspergillus sp. IMPMS7 to break out crude oil-in-water emulsions (O/W). The fungal spores were isolated from marine sediments polluted with petroleum hydrocarbons. The spores exhibited the ability to destabilize different O/W emulsions prepared with medium, heavy or extra-heavy Mexican crude oils with specific gravi...

Condensation/Hydrogenation of Biomass- Derived Oxygenates in Water/Oil Emulsions Stabilized by Nanohybrid Catalysts

The synthesis of fuel-range molecules by condensation of biomass-derived furfural and acetone has been studied in a biphasic emulsion system. Nanohybrids composed of basic oxide nanoparticles fused to carbon nanotubes have been used to simultaneously stabilize water/oil emulsions and catalyze the condensation reaction. Under the same conditions, higher conversions and higher fractions of fuel-r...

Oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by highly charged polyelectrolyte-grafted silica nanoparticles.

Fully sulfonated poly(styrenesulfonate) brushes were grown from the surface of colloidal silica particles and used to prepare stable trichloroethylene-in-water and heptane-in-water Pickering emulsions. These particles were highly charged and colloidally stable in water but could not be dispersed in trichloroethylene or heptane. Both two-phase (emulsion plus neat water) and three-phase (emulsion...
